F04026 – Strep Throat & Rheumatic Fever Trial
Streptococcal infections are associated with rheumatic fever, (leading to permanent heart damage known as rheumatic heart disease) toxic shock syndrome, cellulitis, and even more common conditions such as pharyngitis (strep throat).
Adults aged 18 to 40 may qualify for a clinical research study designed to potentially help people who suffer from strep throat and other Streptococcal infections. This clinical research study is evaluating a potential new treatment to prevent or reduce Group A Streptococcal infections.
The study lasts about 56 weeks and includes regular health assessments, study-related care and lifestyle guidance.
Participants will be paid for their time and reimbursed for reasonable travel.

Eligibility requirements
- Age: 18-40
- Sex: M & F
- BMI: between 18 to 32 (inclusive)
- Medication: Participants may not have received or be planning to receive other investigational study products from 30 days prior to the beginning of the study. Other licensed vaccines from 30 days prior to the study with the exception of any vaccine given if clinically indicated after suspected pathogen exposure (e.g. tetanus, rabies); also licensed inactivated influenza and COVID vaccine and any vaccines given as part of national campaign before or after 14 days of the study. Cannot be on immunosuppressive therapy including systemic steroids.
- Medical History: Medical information will be collected at the Screening visit and confirmed at the Day (Baseline) Visit. Medical history will include (but not be limited to) demographic information, current and past medical conditions. Cannot have uncontrolled hypertension of greater than or equal to 140/90. Cannot have an autoimmune disease or collagen vascular disease.
Overnight Stays
- Nil.
Outpatient Visits
- 9 visits including the screening visit plus 3 telephone calls and 2 separate visits to the Cardiovascular Centre (Norwood).
Payment/Remuneration
- Participants who qualify, enroll and complete all assessments/activities will receive $3,450. Pro-rata amounts will apply if all activities have not been completed.
