Pneumonia can be life-threatening for both the very young and the elderly. But a South Australian company has developed a vaccine to prevent infection from bacteria that commonly cause serious pneumonia in older persons.

Main Exclusions:

• Received Pneumovax 23® or Prevenar 13®/20® vaccines in the last 12 months.
• Tested positive for HIV, Hepatitis B, or Hepatitis C (unless previously treated for Hepatitis C with negative PCR).
• Had an infectious disease like COVID-19 or flu within the last 30 days.
• Abnormal liver function tests (AST, ALT, bilirubin) beyond safe limits.
• Significant abnormalities in lab tests, physical exam, or ECG that may affect the study.
• Participated in another clinical study or used an investigational product in the last 4 weeks.
• Planned to receive any vaccine, including COVID-19 boosters, during the study.
• Had a live vaccine within 3 months or any other vaccine within 28 days before the study starts.
• Received blood products in the last 3 months.
• Known or suspected immune system issues, or use of immunosuppressive therapy recently.
• Have a systemic inflammatory condition like rheumatoid arthritis.
• History of severe allergic reactions.
• Current alcohol or substance abuse, or heavy smoking/vaping.
• Have a chronic illness that could interfere with the study (e.g., heart failure, severe asthma).
• Chronic condition likely to need corticosteroid treatment during the study.
• Renal impairment requiring dialysis.
• Employed at the study site or related to someone involved in the study.
• Poor venous access for blood sampling.
